Finding our part in the revolution
Hello Blog, it’s been a while.
I set out with some pretty basic goals back in November, forgetting that December is a hellish month of nonstop chaos for my day job. Still, I have managed to make some headway over the past two months.
One of the things I last wrote on was taking a different approach to obtaining land for Hinterland by way of purchasing property on the mainland. And I am happy to say that Corey and I are in the process of making that happen! Starting February 4th, we will be calling Marysville home, building equity to prepare us to buy land on Whidbey while simultaneously being the hub we use to build out our community efforts.
The home buying process has been all consuming while trying to balance our day jobs, which has made it difficult to stay on top of my other goals of blogging more regularly and building a better social media presence. The moving process has also forced us to do some early spring cleaning, sorting through closets and garage as we accumulate an ever-growing donate pile, which I plan to use to jumpstart our first community-centered event (which I plan to go into more detail about with the next blog post).
But for now I need to address the the giant, violence-loving elephant in the room. Our country’s descent into fascism has dramatically escalated since I last wrote about it in November. Countless individuals have been taken by ICE, unarmed civilians have been murdered in the streets of Minnesota, and the pundits in power do their best to convince us to reject what we see and hear with our own senses as they incite more and more tax payer funded violence. It has been quite the experience to go through the highs of achieving homeownership as we face such a tipping point for our country. I have grappled with how absurd it feels to reach for these goals of buying a house and starting a business when my inner rage just wants to see the systems that benefit the few at the expense of the many dismantled. But there are many facets to revolution. And a focus on the future we want to build after revolution is what has been helping me keep my head on straight through all this strife.
Hinterland is a vision of a world that prioritizes the health of people and planet alike. Our goal has always been to live by example in building a better world for generations to come, focusing on community, and connecting through nature and art. So please, continue to follow along as we revolt against tyranny and show up for our community.
Oh, and FUCK ICE and Donald Cunt :)
