Hinterland would like to acknowledge that we gather on the lands of those who have been here since time immemorial. The descendents of the Tulalip Tribes have carried on their ancestors’ traditions of living in harmony with the lands of Whidbey Island long before any explorer or settler ventured into the Puget Sound region, and we at Hinterland strive to follow in their example of land stewardship. We honor the peoples of Snohomish, Tulalip, Swinomish, and Stillaguamish, as well as many other tribes who took part in the 1855 Treaty of Port Elliot, whose sovereignty and spiritual connection to the land and water are essential elements of our community’s identity.
